Fabric Preparations

The fabric destined for block printing undergoes a thorough washing and soaking process, followed by sun-drying for up to 48 hours. This creates the foundation for the design journey.

Teakwood Carving

Skilled artisans, often referred to as “chhipa,” delicately carve exquisite designs into teakwood blocks. These designs draw inspiration from local elements such as flora, fauna, animals, and spirituality.

Dyeing the Blocks

The carved blocks are handed over to the "rangrez," who dip them in natural dyes, aligning the patterns onto the woven fabric.

The Final Touch

The responsibility then passes to the washers, or "dhobi," who meticulously cleanse the fabric, setting the colors and ensuring it's market-ready, whether for manufacturing or purchase.
